Ethical Compliance in Research Involving Humans and Animals
The Research Journal of Biotechnology (RJB) is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical responsibility in research involving human participants, animals, and biological materials. All submitted research must comply with internationally recognized ethical principles, national regulations, and institutional guidelines.
Authors are expected to demonstrate transparency, accountability, and ethical integrity in the design, conduct, and reporting of their studies.
Research Involving Human Participants
Ethical Approval
All studies involving human participants, human tissues, or identifiable personal data must receive prior approval from an appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB), Ethics Committee, or equivalent authority.
Authors must clearly state:
- Name of the approving institution
- Approval/reference number
Informed Consent
Informed consent must be obtained from all participants before inclusion in the study.
- For minors or individuals unable to consent, approval must be obtained from a legally authorized representative
- A clear consent statement must be included in the manuscript
Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must ensure the privacy, confidentiality, and anonymity of participants.
- Personal identifiers should not be included unless essential
- Written consent is required if identifiable information is used
Compliance with International Standards
Human research must comply with internationally accepted guidelines such as the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant national regulations.
Research Involving Animals
Ethical Approval for Animal Studies
All animal experiments must be approved by an Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) or an equivalent regulatory body.
Authors must provide details of:

- Licensing (if applicable)
Animal Welfare and Care
Animal research must follow recognized welfare standards. Authors must ensure:
- Humane treatment of animals
- Proper housing and care
- Minimization of pain, suffering, and distress
Application of the 3Rs Principle
Authors are strongly encouraged to follow the 3Rs principle:
- Replacement – Use alternatives to animal testing where possible
- Reduction – Use the minimum number of animals necessary
- Refinement – Improve procedures to minimize suffering
Reporting Standards
Animal studies should follow recognized reporting guidelines such as the ARRIVE guidelines to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
Studies Not Involving Humans or Animals
For studies that do not involve human participants or animals, authors must include a statement confirming that ethical approval and consent were not required.
Ethical Misconduct and Non-Compliance
Failure to comply with ethical standards may result in:
- Rejection of the manuscript
- Retraction of published articles
- Notification to relevant institutions or authorities
